NARRATION
And so back at the hotelour angel again arrivedbut this time he went up the front stepswhich, of course, led him inside(it’s one of those things that architectsconveniently decide)
now hotels are quite like peopleno two exactly the sameand this one had such a magical pastthe angel found himself quite entertained
the foyer still had an elegancethat the years could not disguiseand the shadows of christmas eves long disappearedthis night, still gently glided by
for in this hotel, here side by sidethe past and the present dwelledand the ghosts who lived here not only livedthey honestly, lived well
the lobby had a steinway pianothat was steeped in memoriesand some said duke ellington’s fingersstill lingered on those keys
there was a grand palace ballroomwhere princesses had once waltzedwhose beauty and sense of stylethe newspapers would constantly exhault
the ghosts of rockefellers and vanderbiltsstill met at their christmas eve charity ballsraising money not for themselvesbut raising it for all(and the sound of their children laughingstill echoed in these halls)
now these spirits of course, could not be seenby any human eyesbut each one smiled at the angelwhen they saw him walking by
and these ghosts reminded the angelhow every human waiting to be born, and every life that had already leftwhen it was tired out and worn
were connected by those alive right nowwhich gave the living quite a trust,to pass on what was best and goodinside of each of us
now within each guest room he heard many heartsand behind each heart there was a lifeand the angel carefully read them allwith the next hour of that night
when he reached the grand palace ballroomit was behind closed mahogany doorsand when the angel was passing by ithe could hear music begin once more
it seemed that since this room was builtmusicians did permanently resideand then the angel did what we all would dohe went to look inside
and there he found such a majestic orchestrato please all, it would be enoughbut then someone plugged a guitar inand the volume, it crept up
so with a song inspired by mozart’sfamous “queen of the night”the orchestra added the word, “winter”and some notes, some fog, some lights
QUEEN OF THE WINTER NIGHT
