He was sitting in the cornerAt a table all a loneA candle burnin' in the darknessHis glass of wine was almost gone
Something about him felt familiarAnd it made me atop and a stareThe way he held his hands before himLooked like he was lost in prayer
Hey son, what are you looking at?Why do your eyes look so sad? There's something in the way he sat thereMade me think about my dad
I'm looking for the answerJust like everyoneI know that there's no endingTo the love between a father and a son
Hey son, why don't you pull up one of those empty chairs?Bring it over here by my sideBuy me a glass of wineThis looks like a real good place to hide
You know I've always been a fishermanFishin' for souls along the wayYou kind of remind me of my only sonI lost him 33 years ago today
I'm looking for the answerJust like everyoneI know that there's no endingTo the love between a father and a son
There's somethin' I'd sure like to give youIt's a compass that my Father madeHe told me it'd point you in the right directionIn case you ever lose your wayYou know I've got somethin' here in my pocketThis little silver crossI think my son would want you to have itWhen you think all the hope is lost
We're looking for the answerJust like everyoneWe know that there's no endingTo the love between a father and a son
I left him sitting at his tableBut I didn't feel aloneFor a moment I could see the lightOh we were almost homeFor a moment I could see the lightOh we were almost home
