Now that young girl, outside the storewas trying to capture snow’s magicbut each flake melted at her touchwhich her young mind found quite tragic
and while chasing an elusive snowflakethat was determined to reach the groundshe bumped into the businessman passing byand nearly knocked him down
and thinking she was in troublethe child quickly apologizedbut the man was not accepting itshe could see it in his eyes
she explained she had been looking in the toy shopthat tomorrow would be christmas daybut the man muttered words she could not understandso she searched for something else she could say
“do you have any children?” the child asked the man“no,” was his instant replyand though he said it in his firmest voicein his heart he knew he had lied
the girl was getting on his nerveswhich were already shotsomething about her bothered himbut he could not say quite what
then he noticed the time was approaching midnightwhat was she doing on the street?when he asked the girl this questionthe child seemed to retreat
she said she was staying with her parentsat the hotel, right next doorthey were there for just this one nightin room twelve twenty-four
then he said, “you best get back thereas quick as you can fly!”and he watched as she ran all the wayuntil she was safely back inside
then he took several stepsin the direction towards his homebut then he hesitatedand took out his mobile phone
and called up the institutionwhere he had left his sonto find out if he was still there and alivewondering if the past could be undone
the operator who answered, searched the computerto see if the child had survivedand she was sincerely happy to tell him“your son is no longer here, but he is still alive!”
then the lady who was very kindsaid, “if you have a short whileI can give you all the informationthat is here inside his file
I see that at the age of twelvehe had finally learned to walkand could understand most things people saidbut has never learned to talk
he’s living uptown in the bronxat a boarding house hotel”and then the lady gave him the phone numberand hotel’s address as well
and for the first time in many yearsthe man thought about his lifeand all the things he had left behindand, of course, he thought about his wife
and he wondered if she had livedthe things they might have donebut really most of all right nowhe thought about his son
BACK TO A REASON (PART II)
Timestanding all aloneI bled for youI wanted toeach drop my own
slowly they departbut fall in vainlike desert rainand still they fall on and on and on
got to get back to a reasongot to get back to a reason I once knewand this late in the seasonsone by one distractions fade from view
sodrifting through the darkthe sympathyof night's mercyinside my heartis your life the same?do ghosts cry tears?do they feel years?as time just goes on and on and on
got to get back to a reasongot to get back to a reason I once knewand this late in the seasonsone by one distractions fade from view
i’m looking for youi’m looking for I don’t know whatI can’t see there anymoreand all my time’s been taken
is this what it seems?the lure of a dreamand i’m afraid to walk back through that doorto find that i’ve awakened
the night seems to carethe dreams in the airthe snow’s coming downit beckons me dare
it whispers, it hopesit holds and confidesand offers a bridgeacross these divides
the parts of my lifei’ve tried to forgetit’s gathered each pieceand carefully kept
somewhere in the darkbeyond all the coldthere is a childthat’s part of my soul
got to get back to a reasongot to get back to a reason I once knewand this late in the seasonsone by one distractions fade from viewthe only reason I have left isyou
