An Ulster man I am proud to beFrom the Antrim glens I comeAnd though I've laboured by the seaI have followed fife and drumI have heard the martial tramp of menI've seen them fight and dieAh! Lads it's well I remember whenI followed Henry Joy
I dragged my boat in from the shoreAnd I hid my sails awayI hung my nets upon a treeAnd I scanned the moonlit bayThe boys were out, the red coats tooI kissed my love good-byeAnd in the shade of the greenwood gladeI followed Henry Joy
It was for Ireland's cause we foughtFor home and sire, we bled'Though our numbers were few, our hearts were trueAnd five to one lay deadAnd many a lassie mourned her ladAnd mother mourned her boyFor youth was strong in the daring throngThat followed Henry Joy
In Belfast town, they built a treeAnd the redcoats mustered thereI saw him come as the beat of a drumRolled out in the barrack squareHe kissed his sister, went aloftAnd waved a last good-byeMy God he died, I turned and I criedThey have murdered Henry Joy
