Jesse James we understandHas killed him many a manHe robbed the Union trainsBut history does recordThat Bob and Charlie FordHave laid Jesse James in his grave
It was on a Saturday nightThe stars were shining brightWhen they robbed that Union trainAnd it was one of the younger boysThat gathered in the spoilsAnd carried that money away
In his small home unawareA-straightening pictures thereHe thought he heard a noiseAnd as he turned his headWell, the bullet killed him deadFired by Bob Ford, one of the boys
Poor Jesse had a wifeShe lived a lady all her lifeThe children they were braveBut history does recordThat Bob and Charlie FordHave laid poor Jesse, laid poor JesseHave laid Jesse James in his grave
