He didn't go to college on a full rideBaseball scholarshipDidn't head to L.A. or BroadwayTrying to make it bigHe didn't take a few years after senior yearTo try to find himselfHe just did what he knew to do'Cause he didn't know nothing else
He went to work, he'd get it doneDo anything under the sunEven when his hands or his back was hurtHe'd dirty up a blue-collar shirtHe put his family and the good LordTop of the list of what he loved to live forHe'd drink a beer, he'd hunt and fishPlayed catch with me and give Mom a kissHe went to work
When times were tough, bills piled upThe ends didn't wanna meetIf he worried some, you couldn't see it noneNo, he just rolled up his sleeves
He went to work, he'd get it doneDo anything under the sunEven when his hands or his back was hurtHe'd dirty up a blue-collar shirtHe put his family and the good LordTop of the list of what he loved to live forHe'd drink a beer, he'd hunt and fishPlayed catch with me and give Mom a kissHe went to work
It ain't easy trying to live up to his name, no, it ain'tSomeday I hope my kids can say that same
