The ending of December 1943Somewhere in the forestThe snow was three feet deepTwo allied soldiers walkingTrying not to freezeFar from home on Christmas Eve
A cabin with the light onBrought them to its doorA woman said, "In my homeYou can't bring in your warSo leave your rifles outsideUp against a treeThere's peace on Earth on Christmas Eve"
And they sat by the fire and they talked all night longSang Christmas hymns and showed pictures of homeIn the middle of a great war it's so hard to believeThere's peace on Earth on Christmas Eve
Later in the evening, footsteps in the nightTwo German soldiers freezingThe woman went outside"You're welcome here in my homeBut your guns will never beThere's peace on Earth on Christmas Eve"
The soldiers all were frightenedWhen they stood face to faceThe woman said, "You're brothersPart of the human raceTonight we're all just familyAnd we'll get down on our kneesAnd praise His name on Christmas Eve"
And they sat by the fire and the talked all night longSang Christmas hymns and showed pictures of homeIn the middle of a great war, bitter enemiesFound peace on Earth on Christmas Eve
Early that next morningThey went their separate waysShook hands and hugged that womanThere on Christmas Day
