Tak mampu lagi berdiri
Cahaya kasihmu menuntunku

My father met Eleanor RooseveltIn 1945The war at last was over thenAnd they were still alive
Her husband was the PresidentTill he ran out of timeHer Franklin D. was historyAnd they'd put him on the dime
My father joined the leathernecksTo stay out of the minesThe new marine was just fifteenIn 1939There were medals and malariaThe south pacific warThrough jungles that were paradiseAnd were paradise no more
Soldiers fight and soilders dieSoldiers live to wonder whySemper fi fe fo fumLook out peacetime here we come
Some of the men who did surviveWere not the lucky onesWar is only good for thoseWho make and sell the guns
My father lay recoveringThe hurt was all insideSometimes the wounds that never healAre easiest to hide
When Eleanor came bearing giftsTo San Francisco BayShe gave my dad a blanketIn the hospital that day
That blanket meant alot to himMy mother has it stillSome forget the kindnessesThat others never will
Soldiers fight and soldiers dieSoldiers live to wonder whySemper fi fe fo fumLook out peacetime here we come
